Bacteria Found in Water Vending Machines

The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) is shocked that the Ministry of Health has failed to enforce regulations pertaining to vended water. The ministry’s inaction has resulted in vending machines dispensing water contaminated with faecal bacteria. Consumers who rely on vending machines for their drinking water supply would have been exposed to this contaminated water. Distillation technology on the other hand will kill the bacteria and separates the contaminated water from the pure.

In the past, tap water was freely consumed by Malaysians. As the quality of tap water deteriorated, consumers had to resort to other means to obtain clean water such as: 1) water filters in their homes, 2) consuming bottled water or 3) buying water from vending machines. Most consumers are not aware that the so called clean water can be hazardous to their health. For example, vending water filters can be a source of bacterial contamination if it is not changed regularly.

“Vending Machines Contaminated with Fecal Bacteria”. With distillation, bacteria will never make its way to the treated water.

Vending machines using Reverse Osmosis Filtration can become a perfect breed for bacteria.

In the case of bottled water, it is widely viewed as an environmental menace. Most bottled water comes in polyethylene bottles, indicated by a number 1, PET or PETE. When the bottles are kept for long periods or under warm conditions, they begin to leach chemicals into the water. In Malaysia, bottled water is transported by lorries which, at some point of the day, can reach a temperature of more than 87F degrees. These bottles are then stored in warehouses for an indefinite time before it is put up for sale. Heat causes chemicals to leach into the water faster. In spite of the increase in water prices, consumers have not been provided with clean, safe drinking water.

“When bottles are kept for long periods under warm conditions (up to 95F) plastic bottles begin to leach chemicals into the water.

What is the .8 gallon distiller’s storage container made of?

How do you get the water out. I don’t see a spicket?

The Aquanui CT distills into a glass jar that will sit behind the distiller. It comes out of the spigot filter which will overhang the lip of the glass jar. You can then throw a lid on the glass jar and put it in the fridge so you have cold distilled water when ever you need it.
